January News for 2018!!!

Our beautiful Grands!

Hi Everyone – and Happy New Year to you too. I trust your holidays were super and you’re back into your normal, everyday routines by now. Perhaps even tackling some resolutions. One of my resolutions is to spend more time sewing just for the heck of it. Of course, that’s always on my mind. 😊 And especially when I can get together with other people who want to do the same thing. Be sure to share your project photos with us on Instagram! You;ll find me at cool_stitches. I promise to have more sewing results posted! In the meantime, I’ll share my favorite photo of two of our grands! The little one celebrated his 1st birthday in January.

My mission with Cool Stitches is to bring together people who have expertise to share with people who want to learn to sew or sew better with fun, in-person events. I am a fan of online tutorials, books, and videos to try something new, but there is nothing better than the energy and excitement of learning in person from someone focused on your success. It’s really fun for everyone including our instructors! I want you to experience this and take your sewing to the next level!

February 18th & 19th we are hosting J Stern Designs when Jennifer will share her passion for pattern making and fitting with us. She has designed a 1-1/2 day workshop for us to construct comfy clothes – yoga pants, tee shirts, and cardi-style jackets from knits using a regular sewing machine. She is providing kits with her Easy Fit and Sew Tee Twin Set and Yoga Pants patterns and sport fabric for a pair of yoga pants. She will personally fit you to the right size patterns and help you make any necessary adjustments, and then teach tips and techniques you can use to create great knit clothes for you, your kids, or whoever you want to bless with comfy clothes. Read Jennifer’s announcement here.

This workshop is designed for beginners and beyond. If you’ve never worked with knit fabric before, no worries… the first thing we’re going to do is rev up our sewing machines and practice using sample fabrics included in your Workshop Kit. You can walk away with a complete outfit from this workshop. You will leave with confidence and great information for sewing with knits.

On March 24th we have Nancy Nix-Rice joining us to present her Style School. Oh my gosh, when I first attended one of her presentations, I was very impressed with what she delivered. I went home, purged my closet, made some changes to the right garments and started filling in with confidence in my selections– colors, shapes, patterns, etc.! Nancy says,

  • Learn how to feel great about your look NOW!
  • NOT after your kids leave home.
  • NOT after you win the lottery.
  • Not sometime in the future – but RIGHT NOW.

After attending Style School, you’ll love getting dressed in the morning.  You’ll be able to shop smarter and dress better while spending less.  And you’ll feel 100% confident that you look terrific every day.

This is a great event for anyone who wants to improve their look and update their wardrobes regardless of your style goals. If you sew, you’ll appreciate the tips for achieving your look before you even begin cutting out your fashion fabrics. If you don’t sew, your shopping will become easier and your looks spot on. Join us.

Here’s What’s Coming! In January I convened with our instructors to brainstorm about 2018 workshops and I am quite happy with our plans. We will be popping up the sewing lounge and presenting multiple events over a couple days at a time – days and evenings, so you’re sure to find something you like. In between we’ll have some Sip and Sew moments where we share tips and demos that will make your sewing adventure even more fun. We will repeat our School of Sewing, but with some new projects as well as some repeat projects that are our favorites. We are adding a venue – the Splash Park at Fleming Island – to our locations for the shorter workshops.  We have SO much to offer! Watch for these activities in upcoming newsletters:
